The Meaning of Life

In the end
we know not why
our friends are friends
the skys the sky
its truth we want
but acceptance we need
knowledge gained
is only a seed
without acceptance
it cannot bloom
cannot help
cannot loom
we have to know
that it is true
and ask not why
I'm me, your you
some things
are meant to stay unknown
I say we leave
our frets at home
make the most
of our lives
have fun with it
and in that lies
THE MEANING
OF LIFE

for a couple people(yall know who ya are)

  • Mood: happy times
  • Music: Happy days theme song

Its been awhile
since I had the chance
     Its been awhile
I think as I dance
          Its been awhile
im nearly in a trance
               Its been awhile
since I took this stance

I am happy
found in the  oddest places
    I am happy
a wonderful stasis
        I am happy
for many cases
            I am happy
when I see your faces

because you are the best of friends
and ill be with you till this world ends

from the eyes of the lost

  • Mood:

I wrote this poem
it kicked some ass
I was impressed
with my hint of class

It rivaled all
poems of the past
a stupendouse work
this worlds last

but in the end
my inperfect soul
made a large folley
and deleted it whole

what idiocy left
can there be for me
after ruining the worlds
last great decree

for this I leave
to become a hermit
if your lookin for me
my new names Kermit

friendship plea

ive been acused of being lame
of being dumb, and far past insane
Ive been acused of being fake
of wanting only for my sake
Ive been accused of many things
but never once of something that brings
guilt to my heart, or shame to my name
because I am me, and since you came
you must not think me that insane
for in some instances, crazy or sane
a person is good at heart
and for that deserves your part
in helping out and being a friend
and letting them know its not the end
Im always there for you
for once, please be there for me too

Illusions of the world

in hell there is a man
He stays hidden and watches all
he lets us believe we have a hand
in the events that rise and fall
but truly you must see
that all are lost
when god and devil d
bargain on the cost
of the worth of your life
andthe worth of mine
when good is synonymous with strife
and evils on the wrong side of the line
there is no black
there is no white
when life cannot stack
up to the truth of light

Faulkner, A Prejudice Junkie

So it's like digging through the ash tray for part of a cigarette, or dumping the last drop of every beer into a cup hoping to aquire one last drink. It's gonna be your last. Atleast you keep telling yourself that, this is the last puff the last snort the last hit. No more after today, today you are creating a NEW you.
So Faulkner is human, he fell under the stress of peer pressure just like millions of other people. His drug of choice just happens to be something competely different and yet supremely normal. It SOUNDS odd to be addicted to prejudism, but truthfully many people fall victim to this. It's not a choice, it's bred in you as surely as the color of your eyes. Faulkner tries to not be prejudice, he knows it's wrong. He just can't help it. Its like when you see a dog, and you know(or atleast think) you are smarter than it, and you can't help but feel superior to it. Faulkner has been raised to feel superior to blacks and therefor he does. Whether he likes it or not. This is his last day. Hes gonna go anti-slavery tomorrow. He is a new man. Starting tomorrow.... always tomorrow.

A Rose for Emily

Sanity is a state of mind. You see a man walking down the road talking to himself, and you think to yourself "Poor man must be out of it. Crazies are everywhere nowadays." If you had taken two seconds to look closer you would see that he isn't crazy but talking on a phone, one with an earpiece and microphone on a chord leading to his pocket.
A Rose for Emily, is written to make you think of a crazy woman. She keeps to herself and sleeps next to a dead man. Obviously crazy right? But say we take a closer look, and upon inspection that mans will states his last requests. Knowing that nobody would allow his requests she keeps to herself, because her love is so profound that she would do anything for this man.
Things that are odd to us may seem completely normal to the person doing it. We as americans dont eat dog, but in some countries dog is a delicacy. Its all in our minds.  We choose whether or not to accept a thing or idea. We as a society need to learn to accept the differences in others. Now I understand that sleeping next to a dead body is a bit of an extreme circumstance, but what better way to show someone something than to take it to its farthest extreme.

In "The End of Something" the story is about a couple. they start out in a row boat on the river and then  get out on the beach. They are having problems and end up breaking up.

In "The Three Day Blow" Nick and Ben are out in Ben's father's hunting lodge. They drink and talk about many things. The story shows the feelings and emotons running through Nick as he contemplates the decision he just made. He figures that maybe he made a mistake and decides to go to town the next day and try to patch things up.

Hemingway has a very forward way of writing and yet keeps much hidden within his words. He is very big on scene description, using it to show the mood of the scenario and to symbolize character feelings that are not openly apparent. His writing style to me is very boring, he has too much descrioption of scenery and doesnt leave much room for the imagination.

On the surface Nick is camping and fishing. But he is running from his problems. He is getting away and taking life slow. It’s a nice change for him and he enjoys himself when these problems present themselves again (the swamp) he avoids them and postpones the inevitable, for better, or worse.

1.  What else do you think Hemmingway may be saying through the setting in this story?  He is showing the carefree attitude that Nick had taken toward life.

2.  Why does he use the contrasting setting of the burned out area with the lush, green setting?
He shows how much better off Nick is in this new (state of mind) place.

3.  What does Nick's traveling through the burned out area to the lush green area symbolize?
His movement from the burned landscape symbolizes him leaving his problems behind. When a farmer wants to clear an area of weeds, so that he can plant something, he will burn the land. The burning fertilizes the soil and gets rid of the bothersome weeds. Thus allowing the plants he puts there to grow. Nick has burned away the weeds, and planted sturdier surroundings.

4.  What does the swamp area symbolize?

The swamp symbolizes the new problems arising in his life. Nobody can live without problems.

5.  When does Nick, if ever, plan to go to the swamp?

Later after he has had his fill of the easy life, secluded from the world and reality.
